Rocker Pink may love her namesake color -- but, unfortunately for Selena Gomez, she draws the line at pink horses. On Thursday, Pink, 31, went red with rage when she saw a music video crew spraying colored paint on horses near her Malibu, Calif., home.
"If there are any animal activists around Malibu -- at Leo Cabrillo State Beach, there are horses being painted for a stupid music video. Shame," the pop singer tweeted on Thursday. "Artists should be more aware and responsible for their actions," she added.
As it turns out, the pink horses were the responsibility of 18-year-old Disney Channel star Selena Gomez, who was shooting beach scenes for her new music video "Love You Like a Love Song." Pink figured this out only when Gomez's fans started sending angry Twitter messages Pink's way -- but that didn't silence the "Raise Your Glass" singer.
"Oh lord, THAT'S whose video it was? Disney fans unite. here we go," Pink wrote in response. "Whether u r a fan of mine or whomEVER'S, i won't stop speaking out about animal cruelty. i've taken responsibility in the past, so should she."
In case you're wondering what's so cruel about painting horses, People for the Ethical Treatment of Animals (PETA) claims that there's "no safe way" to paint a live animal.
"They can have a painful allergic reaction to chemicals, and there's no way to know how an individual animal react," a PETA rep explains to Celebuzz. "Also, subjecting skittish animals like horses to extended periods of restraint and spraying is stressful and frightening."
But reps for Gomez -- who is also making headlines for kissing boyfriend Justin Bieber on national TV Sunday night -- say the horses were not mistreated.
"It was important to the Production Company, Record Label and Ms. Gomez that no animals were harmed and all proper precautions were taken," a rep for the teen star told People. "A non-toxic, vegetable-based powder paint was applied via an airbrush and removed with water. An official from the Humane Society was on set supervising."
Okay, we're trying really hard not a make a "horse of a different color" joke right now. Let's just all hope that the horses weren't traumatized by their music video experience. There are probably worse things than being painted pink for a few hours... right?
